Tamdin Dolma

Tibetan

Current AD: Paris, France

I am Tamdin Dolma and was born in Tibet and grew up in a remote agriculture area. As a child, I had a clear memory of my childhood as a farmer’s daughter. Due to the financial situation of my family, I was sent to India to study. I escaped with a group of Tibetans through Himalayan mountains.  In India, I was brought up under the support of the exile Tibetan government and studied primary, secondary and finally high school in Tibetan Children’s Village Schools.

As a refugee student, I am passionate about social and cultural activities related to Tibet, and I am also interested in social service or voluntary works. Thus, I took part in many events and be able to help others. Besides these activities, I am also very passionate about cooking habit, which led me to learn cooking skills at a very young age.

After high school, I joined the University of Delhi for undergraduate studies in business, which offered me an opportunity to live in a city and learnt a lot of experiences. In Delhi, I came to know many possibilities in one’s life, which brought a ray of light in my future dream.

As a coincidence, I came to contact the “Himalayan Initiative” programme through a friend of mine, and I instantly applied for a scholarship. Himalayan Initiative kindly helped me to find a full scholarship at the Sapienza University of Rome. For the first time, I came to Europe as an Erasmus student and learnt both textual and non-textual knowledge.

Upon the completion of my studies, I decided to come to France and work in this country. Currently, I am living in Paris and working in my professional field. I am grateful to the “Himalayan Initiative” to bring me this opportunity in my life.
