Gyadun Gyatso

Tibetan

Current AD: California, US

Gyadun Gyatso was born in a nomadic area in Tibet and grew up with Yaks, sheep and horses. He began his education from the local school with bilingual education system-Tibetan and Chinese. Though he had never been out of his local region and never had the chance to meet with outsiders, he is a big dreamer and also genuinely passionate about his dream chasing.

Then, Gyadun left home and escaped to India like many other Tibetans at the time. He walked through the Himalayan mountains with a group of other Tibetans. Finally, he arrived in India and enrolled in Tibetan government school in exile. Upon the completion of high school, Gyadun joined the University of Delhi for his undergraduate study in English Literature and completed the degree with a colourful result.

He represented his college at many debates and English speech competitions and received many awards. Besides his academic study, he is also talented in many Tibetan and modern musical instruments and performed in various stages with well-known singers. Upon the suggestion of a friend, Gyadun applied to “Himalayan Initiative” for a scholarship abroad. In his surprise, “Himalayan Initiative” helped him to get a full scholarship at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Gyadun completed his master’s degree in international Relations and now happily settled in Los Angeles of California in the USA. I am grateful to this “Himalayan Initiative”, and I hope this programme will work continuously and change the lives of many other young students.
